You can practice the sessions, goals/ programs, and collections in any order you like.
However, each program is specifically designed with sessions in a sequence to get deeper into each topic as it progresses. We encourage you to explore completing a series of sessions in the order presented. After completing the program, return to the sessions that you find most helpful or repeat the program in order.
When you're first learning to meditate, we also recommend (whenever possible) sticking with the session you've started. Obviously if you realize immediately that a session is not what you thought it was, then it's okay to switch. But if the session gets a bit uncomfortable or maybe even boring halfway through, that's the time to stay calm and focused to complete it.
It's nice to enjoy a calm and quiet mind, but some days the mind is simply not like that. It can be tempting to blame it on the practice, thinking it's not working. But the practice simply makes us aware of how we are already feeling, providing a framework in which we can safely unwind and let go. So when we experience something uncomfortable or challenging, it can actually be a vital part of that process. And if you should experience some boredom, that's actually a very good thing. We are so used to being stimulated and active, it's only natural to feel bored when it's time to sit with the mind. But by reacting to boredom, we never get the chance to sit with it, so we never get to understand it. If we take the time to understand it, we might find something interesting behind that boredom.
At the very least, we're getting better at taming our distractions. Ultimately, no matter what your motivation, mindfulness training is just about showing up each day. If we can do that and stay consistent with it, then we will.
